We believe in organic gardening methods and look to support Irish biodiversity through wildlife friendly planting schemes and reduced use of herbicides and pesticides.
Work with the community and schools to encourage awareness of the environment through education in the form of talks, school trips and tree planting and grow your own competitions.
Plant trees and site bird houses at The Secret Garden Centre.
Harvest rain water and reuse to water within the garden centre.
Work with societies such as the Irish Peatland Conservation Council, Environmental Protection Agency, Birdwatch Ireland and Duhallow Beekeepers.
The Secret Garden is never one to shirk its environmental responsibilities and works hard to offset its carbon footprint by implementing a range of green initiatives. So, as you can see, we really go the extra mile to be green.
It was wonderful to see that our strive to be a greener garden centre was recognised last year as we were shortlisted as finalists in the Green Awards 2010 catergory for Small to Medium Size Enterprises and the Green Retailer Award.
And for the Green Awards 2011 we have just received notice that we have been shortlisted as finalists in The Green Retailer and The Green Corporate Citizen awards.
